Characteristics of the species:
- Dill is an annual herb with a fennel-like appearance, 60-120 cm tall, glabrous throughout, with a strong pungent odor. The stem is erect and smooth, cylindrical, with longitudinal thin stripes on the surface, 0.5-1.5 cm in diameter. Its small yellow flowers are distributed in umbels, and the leaf blade is needle-like and divided. Its pungent components have both pain-relieving and sedative effects. In addition to its medicinal uses, dill is mostly used in cooking to deodorize fish or to add an herbal flavor, and can be used directly as a condiment. The unripe fruit and seeds can be refined into an edible essential oil or dried to make a spice, and the leaves can be eaten fresh or dried to provide an aromatic flavor to dishes. Dill prefers warm, humid climates, and does not tolerate heat, drought or cold. It is suitable for growing in moist, fertile soil and is usually propagated by sowing.
